Chattogram District Council will provide nearly Tk 30 lakh in educational scholarships to 226 college and university students in the district for the 2026-27 fiscal year.

The scholarships will be handed over at a programme at the council's conference room on Tuesday afternoon, October 27. Public Administration Adviser Mohammad Ismail Zabiullah is scheduled to distribute the funds.

The initiative aims to support meritorious students from financially disadvantaged backgrounds and help them continue their higher education.

According to the council, a selection committee reviewed applications and recommended 226 students for the scholarships: 153 at college level, 35 at undergraduate or equivalent level and 38 at postgraduate or equivalent level.

The committee received 271 applications from college-level students who passed the Secondary School Certificate examinations in 2024 and 2025. Of them, 101 students from the 2024 cohort and 52 from the 2025 cohort were selected.

Under the scheme, each college-level student will receive Tk 12,000, each undergraduate-level student Tk 14,000 and each postgraduate-level student Tk 16,000.

District Council Administrator Mahbuber Rahman Shamim said the initiative was intended to encourage academic achievement, promote higher education and help develop skilled human resources. He added that the council planned to continue similar programmes to support education and public welfare.
