All eight divisions of Bangladesh may experience rainfall under the influence of Cyclone Arnab, which crossed the Indian coast on Wednesday. Day and night temperatures may fall slightly across the country, while gusty or squally winds may affect the North Bay and coastal areas.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) provided the information in its 120-hour weather forecast issued at 6:00 PM on Tuesday.
According to the forecast, temporary rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds may occur at some places in Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions. Elsewhere, the weather may remain mainly dry, with partly cloudy skies.
The BMD said in its synoptic situation that very severe Cyclone Arnab was moving west-northwestwards over the west-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas. At noon on Tuesday, the storm was centred over the same region and was forecast to move further west-northwestwards before crossing the Andhra Pradesh coast of India by Wednesday noon.
The cyclone has generated deep convective clouds over the North Bay, raising the possibility of gusty or squally winds over the North Bay and Bangladesh's coastal areas.
Meanwhile, a mild heatwave was sweeping over Pabna, Sirajganj, Cumilla, Chandpur, Feni, Lakshmipur, Bhola and Barishal districts, as well as parts of Dhaka, Khulna, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions. The heatwave may subside, the BMD said.
In Dhaka, winds are expected to blow from the north or northeast at speeds of 6–12 kilometres per hour.
