Finland, the world's happiest country, has invited single people from around the world to take part in a unique blind-dating experience, offering an opportunity to explore its food culture and possibly find love.

According to a Forbes report, the country's tourism board, Visit Finland, has launched the initiative to bring together international singles and local residents through food and shared dining experiences.

Under the campaign, titled 'Finnish Dinner Date', 16 single participants from different countries will be invited on an all-expenses-paid trip to Finland from February 9 to 19, 2027.

Participants will have the opportunity to taste regional delicacies, including wild fish, berries and foraged mushrooms, prepared by some of the country's leading chefs.

The highlight of the trip will be special group dinner dates, where international participants will meet local Finnish singles in Helsinki and Tampere, in the Lakeland region, in February 2027.

Heli Jimenez, Senior Director of International Marketing at Business Finland, said in an official statement that Finnish food reflects the country's way of life and offers a connection to nature, seasons and the people around them.

She added that food brings Finns together and the initiative invites visitors to experience the country in a unique way.

The campaign draws inspiration from Finland's 'sinkkukori', or 'single basket', dating trend. Several supermarket chains in the country have introduced pink shopping baskets that allow single shoppers to discreetly signal their interest in socialising or dating.

Visit Finland acknowledged that while Italian, Chinese and other Nordic cuisines have gained international popularity, Finnish cuisine remains among Europe's lesser-known food traditions.

From sauna-inspired dishes to foraging in forests, Finnish cuisine tells a story that cannot be found elsewhere, Jimenez said.

She added that visitors might find love in the world's happiest country — with another person, Finnish food or even a new favourite travel destination.
