Bangladesh Bank has introduced Bangla QR-based person-to-person (P2P) transactions, allowing individuals to send money by scanning QR codes without needing a phone or account number.
The central bank announced the service on Sunday, November 1, as part of efforts to expand digital payments, reduce cash dependence and promote a cashless economy.
Under the new system, users can simply scan another person's Bangla QR code to transfer money quickly and securely.
Bangla QR was initially launched on a pilot basis on January 18, 2023, and was made mandatory for all merchants from July 1, 2026.
According to Bangladesh Bank's latest data, transactions through Bangla QR reached Tk 1,883 crore through nearly 69 lakh transactions via mobile financial services in August. Internet banking recorded another 5.86 lakh transactions worth Tk 391.43 crore during the same month.
