Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has warned that attempts to create unrest in the garment sector will be dealt with strictly, saying legal action will be taken against those inciting workers to shut factories for political purposes.
Speaking to journalists at the Secretariat on Tuesday (November 3), he said some groups were trying to provoke garment workers and disrupt factory operations.
He said closed factories would be reopened soon, adding that workers' demands had been addressed and a minimum wage board had started its work.
The board will hold discussions between workers and employers to determine the new minimum wage, he said.
Salahuddin alleged that some groups linked to the defeated fascist forces were trying to create unrest for political gains.
"We will deal with such activities with an iron hand," he said.
