The Bangladesh national kabaddi team has been honoured for winning the bronze medal at the inaugural 2026 Commonwealth Kabaddi Championship in Ahmedabad, India.

The reception was organised recently at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Ahmedabad by Yawar Khan, chairman of the Asian Catering Federation and founder and chairman of the Asian Curry Awards.

The Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation disclosed the information in a press release on Tuesday.

Bangladesh reached the semi-finals of the championship, where they faced hosts India, before finishing the tournament with a bronze medal.

The reception recognised the players' performances, discipline and collective efforts during the competition.

Speaking at the event, Yawar Khan said the achievement was not merely a medal but a reflection of the players' determination, discipline and team unity. He added that their representation of Bangladesh on the international sporting stage was a source of pride and would inspire future generations of athletes.

Anisa Khan, Bangladesh-origin captain of the England kabaddi team, also attended the programme and congratulated the Bangladesh team. She stressed the importance of international cooperation and the exchange of experience to develop kabaddi worldwide.

She said kabaddi was still a relatively new sport in England and that countries such as Bangladesh, with a long-standing tradition and experience in the game, could play an important role in its development.

Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation team manager Delwar Hossain thanked Yawar Khan and the Asian Catering Federation for organising the reception. He said the bronze medal was the result of the players' dedication and collective efforts, adding that such recognition would encourage the team to perform better in future competitions.

The federation's treasurer, Md Zahid Iqbal Almas, also thanked the organisers for recognising the team's achievement and highlighted the importance of international cooperation and friendly relations in strengthening Bangladesh's position in global kabaddi.

Players from both the men's and women's national teams, along with federation officials and coaching staff, were also honoured at the event.
