The High Court has directed Shahjalal Rumi to surrender before a Gazipur metropolitan court within four weeks in a case filed over allegations of assaulting a madrasa teacher and vandalising the institution in Tongi of Gazipur.
A High Court bench comprising Justice Md Selim and Justice Md Asif Hasan passed the order on Tuesday (November 3).
Lawyers Mahbubur Rahman Khan, Bellal Hossain and Ruhul Amin Mollah (Hasan) represented Rumi in court.
The case was filed on October 24 over allegations that Rumi, accompanied by outsiders, entered Qariul Quran International Madrasa in the Auchpara area of Tongi, assaulted a teacher, vandalised the office room and looted Tk 17 lakh.
Madrasa headteacher Mohammad Almas Hossain filed the case against Rumi.
Meanwhile, police arrested teacher Muslem Uddin over allegations of sexually harassing a seven-year-old child and sent him to jail following a case filed by the child's family. A court rejected his bail petition after a hearing on Sunday at the Gazipur Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court.
Tongi West Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Arifur Rahman said a case had been filed against the accused teacher and he had been sent to jail. He added that the madrasa authorities had also filed a case against 15 people, including the child's guardian, over allegations of vandalism, looting and assaulting a teacher.
