Amir Khosru urges Samsung to expand investment in Bangladesh

Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury has urged South Korean electronics giant Samsung to explore opportunities for expanding its investment and business operations in Bangladesh, highlighting the country's growing potential in electronics manufacturing, technology and digital services.

The minister made the call during a meeting with Samsung President Kim Woo-jun and senior officials of the company during his visit to South Korea on Tuesday.

During the meeting, they discussed potential areas of cooperation, including electronics manufacturing, artificial intelligence (AI), digital connectivity, technology transfer and skills development.

Amir Khosru highlighted Bangladesh's investment potential and called on Samsung to consider expanding its presence in the country through greater investment and technological cooperation.

He also emphasised the government's interest in attracting foreign direct investment (FDI), diversifying the industrial base and developing a competitive technology-driven economy.

The discussions also focused on opportunities to strengthen Bangladesh-South Korea economic relations through greater private-sector engagement and investment partnerships.

Samsung representatives expressed interest in exploring further cooperation with Bangladesh, particularly in areas involving technology and industrial development.

The meeting comes amid efforts by Bangladesh to attract more foreign investment, diversify exports and strengthen its position in global manufacturing and technology supply chains.
