Minister urges unity around Ziaur Rahman's ideals

Fisheries, Agriculture and Livestock Minister Haji Mohammad Aminur Rashid has called on people to remain united and move forward by embracing the ideals of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.

He said the significance of November 7, National Revolution and Solidarity Day, lay in its message of unity and collective solidarity.

"Everyone must remain united under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to strengthen the country and sustain its development journey.''

The minister made the remarks at a rally and discussion organised by the Comilla South District and Comilla Metropolitan units of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Saturday to mark the day.

Speakers at the programme stressed the need for responsible participation in nation-building, inspired by the spirit of national unity, democracy, independence and sovereignty.

They also said that despite political differences, mutual respect, tolerance and an atmosphere of unity must be maintained in the national interest.

Earlier, a colourful procession was brought out at 11am from in front of the BNP party office in Kandirpar, a busy area of Comilla city.

The procession travelled through major city streets, drawing a large number of BNP leaders and activists from all 27 wards of Comilla Metropolitan area and different upazilas.

The streets came alive with party slogans, banners and festoons as activists from the BNP and its affiliated and associate organisations joined the rally.

A discussion meeting was also held at the party office ahead of the procession, where BNP leaders highlighted the importance of national unity, stronger democratic practices and continuity in the country's development.

Among those present were Comilla-6 lawmaker Monirul Haque Chowdhury; Comilla Metropolitan BNP President and Comilla Development Authority Administrator Udbatul Bari Abu; its General Secretary and Comilla City Corporation Administrator Yusuf Molla Tipu; and Comilla South District BNP General Secretary and Comilla WASA Chairman Ashikur Rahman Mahmud Wasim.

Leaders from the district and metropolitan BNP units and their affiliated and associate organisations also attended the programmes.
