Priyanka Chopra has announced Ventilator 2, a sequel to her first Marathi production, as her production house Purple Pebble Pictures marks its 10th anniversary.
The 2016 film marked the first project backed by Purple Pebble Pictures. Director Rajesh Mapuskar, who helmed the original, will return to direct the sequel.
Priyanka, her mother Dr Madhu Chopra and Mapuskar will jointly produce the film under Purple Pebble Pictures and Magij Pictures. The sequel is scheduled for release in 2027, although its cast, storyline and shooting schedule have yet to be announced.
Sharing the announcement on Instagram, Priyanka reflected on the production house's decade-long journey, saying she had wanted to support stories with meaningful messages when she launched the banner.
The original Ventilator, set during Ganesh Chaturthi, revolved around a family gathering at a hospital after an elderly relative was placed on ventilator support. The Marathi film featured Ashutosh Gowariker, Jitendra Joshi, Sulabha Arya and Satish Alekar, among others.
The film won three National Film Awards, including Best Director for Mapuskar, Best Editing and Best Sound Mixing.
