Protesters demanding government intervention to resolve the ongoing crisis in Sajek upazila have announced that their road blockade will continue until their five-point demand is met, alongside forming a 101-member committee to organize the movement.

The decision was made during a policy-making meeting convened by the Sajek Gono Adhikar Rakkha Committee and the Sajek Karbari Association on Saturday (November 7). The newly established 'Sajek Tourism Road Blockade Implementation Public Committee' named Babudhan Chakma as its convener and Bijoy Kanti Chakma as member secretary.

According to a press release, the meeting took place amid the fourth phase of the blockade, which was called to demand security for local residents and the withdrawal of armed members of the JSS (Santu group) allegedly backed by armed forces.

Protesters expressed strong dissatisfaction over the lack of concrete declarations following the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs meeting held on November 5. Leaders accused the government of lacking sincerity in resolving the impasse and reiterated their resolve to intensify the movement.

The organizers stated that the blockade will persist until the five-point demand—submitted to a government delegation during a meeting at Ujobazar on October 26—is fully addressed.

The indefinite blockade on the Sajek tourist road, which began on October 22, has severely disrupted the local tourism sector, transport services, and daily economic activities, resulting in mounting losses for tourism-dependent businesses in the region.
