Observer Online Report
Three people, including two students of Rajshahi University (RU), were injured when a private car driven by an outsider hit their motorcycle in front of the university's main gate on Sunday afternoon.
The injured were the two motorcycle riders and the private car driver. They were identified as Swadhin, a 2023-24 academic session student of the university's Marketing Department, his companion, and private car driver Safiul Islam Sohel, a resident of the Kashiadanga area in the city.
Blaming the private car driver for the accident, motorcycle rider Swadhin said, "I was riding my motorcycle in my lane. He (the private car driver) was coming into my lane. I signalled as he approached, but he hit us from behind."
However, private car driver Safiul Islam Sohel blamed the motorcycle rider's lack of caution for the accident.
Confirming the incident, RU Assistant Proctor Dr Md Zohurul Islam said the injured were taken to the proctor's office following the collision and were later sent to the university medical centre.
He said the university would review the available CCTV footage before taking action.
"There is little scope for a separate investigation into the incident. We will take steps based on what can be established from the footage," he added.
Sub-Inspector Md Shahadat Hossain of Kashiadanga Police Station, who was present at the scene, said the police would first determine how the people were injured and then provide legal assistance according to the victims' requests.
