Titas Gas has explained that an underwater pipeline damaged by a vessel’s anchor at Aminbazar area is behind the severe gas pressure crisis currently affecting Dhaka.

Severe low gas pressure across Dhaka has been caused by damage to a gas distribution pipeline laid beneath the Turag River, Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company said on Friday.

According to the company, the pipeline was hit by the anchor of a cargo vessel at Aminbazar area, resulting in disruption to gas supply in the capital. Although the damaged section has since been repaired, water entered the pipeline during the repair process.

Titas Gas said the situation has been further worsened by an overall reduction in gas supply to Dhaka, leading to acute low pressure in many parts of the city.

The company added that necessary technical and operational measures are currently underway to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.

Titas Gas also expressed regret for the temporary inconvenience caused to consumers and sought their understanding.
