BAGERHAT, Jan 11: Alleging that the goals and objectives of the July Movement have been compromised, 12 members, including the Chief Coordinator of the Bagerhat Sadar Upazila unit of the National Citizen Party (NCP), have resigned.

The formal announcement of their resignation was made at a press conference held at the Bagerhat Press Club on Sunday afternoon.

In a written statement and in response to questions from journalists at the press conference, the resigning Coordinator of the Bagerhat Sadar Upazila unit Sheikh Ali Hossain stated that he had been serving as the Chief Coordinator of the unit since June 2025 until January 11, 2026. However, he observed a significant incongruity between the current political landscape and the commitments upon which the NCP was founded and began its journey-commitments rooted in the aspirations of the 2024 mass uprising to build a new Bangladesh. Due to the deviation from the dream of a new arrangement they had envisioned, he found it impossible to continue his journey with the NCP.

As his personal philosophy and the political ideology of the NCP have become contradictory, he, along with 11 others, is resigning from the Bagerhat Sadar Upazila unit of the NCP effective today. "We were not involved in any extortion, tender manipulation, or grabbing of markets and properties," he added.

He further said, "However, for the welfare of the country and its people, I was always ready to serve as a soldier when needed, I am in my retired life, and will remain so until my death-but not as a member of the NCP."

Among the 21-member committee of the NCP's Sadar Upazila unit, many have expressed solidarity with him and decided to resign.

They are: Joint Coordinator Kazi Mahfuzur Rahman, members Ashikur Rahman Sumon, Sheikh Russel, Sheikh Mijanur Rahman, Md. Hasan Sheikh, Md. Shahidul Islam, Sheikh Zahidul Islam, Sheikh Nabil Hossain, Md. Johnny, Munni Akter Jenny, and Md. Ratul Ahsan.
