The 16th National Undergraduate Mathematics Olympiad 2025, has been held at BUET.
The final round, sponsored by the A. F. Mujibur Rahman Foundation, was held at the Department of Mathematics on Friday, the authorities said this in a press release on Saturday.
Previously, regional Olympiads were conducted in eight regions.
Prof. Dr. Md. Shahidul Islam, President of the Bangladesh Mathematical Society and Vice-Chancellor of Pirojpur Science and Technology University, officially inaugurated the final round as the Chief Guest by releasing balloons.
The event was also attended by Special Guests Prof. Dr. Md. Abdul Jalil, Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at BUET, Prof. Dr. Md. Monirul Alam Sarker, Convener of the Undergraduate Mathematics Olympiad 2025 and Dr. K. M. Ariful Kabir, Member Secretary.
The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Prof. Dr. Mohammed Forhad Uddin, Convener of the final round and Head of the Department of Mathematics, BUET. The final competition took place from 10 AM to 12 PM with great enthusiasm and spontaneous participation.
The result announcement and prize-giving ceremony was held later in the afternoon at the Seminar Room of Civil Engineering Building.
Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of BUET, Prof. Dr. Abu Borhan Mohammad Badruzzaman graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Furthermore, Hon’ble Pro-Vice-Chancellor of BUET
Prof. Dr. Abdul Hasib Chowdhury, Dean of the Faculty of Science Prof. Dr. Al-Nakib Chowdhury, President of the Bangladesh Mathematical Society and Vice-Chancellor of Pirojpur Science and Technology University Prof. Dr. Md. Shahidul Islam and the Trustee of the A. F. Mujibur Rahman Foundation Mr. M. Nurul Alam were present as Special Guests. Tahjib Hossain Khan from BUET crowned as the champion in the competition.
The second and third positions were also earned by BUET students, M. A. Musabbir Antar and Md. Ashraful Islam respectively.
In his speech VC remarked that mathematics is currently much neglected in Bangladesh, but there is no scope to overlook it on a global scale. The practice of mathematics is extremely urgent and essential for the development of our country.
