A court, on Wednesday, sentenced Senior Assistant Secretary Md Kamal Hossain, who is an officer on special duty at the Ministry of Public Administration, to jail for fraudulently using the freedom fighter quota to become a BCS cadre by presenting his uncle as his father.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order, cancelling his bail in the case.

The High Court on December 15, 2025, allowed him four weeks interim bail. He later surrendered before a lower court concerned and was granted bail on condition of cooperating with the investigating officer and undergoing a DNA test. But the accused later failed to comply with the order on two occasions.

ACC Deputy Assistant Director Md Manjurul Islam Mintu filed the case on December 26, 2025, accusing Kamal of securing university admission, government employment and other benefits under the freedom fighter quota by falsely presenting his paternal uncle, freedom fighter Md Ahsan Habib, and aunt, Mst Sanowara Khatun, as his parents instead of his biological parents, Md Abul Kashem and Habia Khatun.
