Almost 900,000 personnel of security forces, including military and paramilitary forces will be deployed nationwide to maintain law and order during 13th national parliamentary election to ensure a peaceful, free, fair and credible polling environment slated for February 12.
To strengthen centre-based security, members of the police, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Ansar will be deployed alongside personnel from the army, navy and air force. Other law enforcement and intelligence agencies will also remain on standby to maintain law and order. Technology-based surveillance systems are being integrated into the overall security plan.
According to sources at the Ministry of Home Affairs a total of 897,117 law enforcement personnel, including 100,000 Bangladesh Army, 5,000 Bangladesh Navy, 3,730 Bangladesh Air Force (1,250 ground force), 1,49,443 Bangladesh Police, 576,314 Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defense Force, 37,453 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), 3,585 Bangladesh Coast Guard, 7,700 RAB, and 13,390 members of the Fire Service and Civil Defense Department as support services, will be deployed in the upcoming national elections.
Sources said that, police, Ansar, and Village Defence Party (VDP) members will be deployed at every polling station to ensure security during the election. Additional forces, including mobile patrol teams and reserve units, will be stationed at high-risk centres.
The authorities have also kept preparations in place for the rapid deployment of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and, if necessary, the armed forces in the event of any deterioration in the situation.
Polling stations will be monitored using body-worn cameras, closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras and drones. The "Election Security App 2026" will remain operational. Authorities said the plan aims to ensure a transparent and peaceful election through maximum use of technology.
