Police recovered the body of a member of BNP media cell from a toilet at the National Press Club in the capital on Tuesday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Ali Masud, 69, also a journalist in daily Dinkal.

According to Shahbagh Police Station, the body was found around 9:00 AM after the toilet door was opened.

Confirming the matter, Shahbagh Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Md Moniruzzaman said the club’s general secretary informed police over phone earlier in the morning.

After receiving the information, police went to the spot and recovered the body by breaking the toilet door opened. Preliminary assessment suggests that he may have died from a brain stroke, the OC said.

The body has been sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for further examination. Police said legal procedures are underway and the cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem examination.
