DERAI, SUNAMGANJ, Feb 15: The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has secured a historic landslide victory in all five parliamentary constituencies of Sunamganj District in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election, marking the first time since Bangladesh's independence that a single party has won every seat in the haor-dominated district.

According to results signed by District Returning Officer and Deputy Commissioner Dr Mohammad Ilias Mia, BNP candidates won all five constituencies by large margins, with no strong challenge from rival candidates. In four constituencies, candidates from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami emerged as runners-up, while in one constituency, a rebel BNP candidate secured second position.
The sweeping victory sparked celebrations across the district, as BNP leaders, activists, and supporters hailed the results as a significant political breakthrough in Sunamganj, often described as the heart of Bangladesh's haor region.

Sunamganj-1: BNP candidate Kamruzzaman Kamrul secured a decisive victory, receiving 161,774 votes with the party's 'Sheaf of Paddy' symbol. His nearest rival, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Tofayel Ahmed, received 92,966 votes, while Nezam-e-Islam Party candidate Maulana Mujammil Haque Talukdar managed only 1,184 votes.

Out of 501,530 registered voters, 255,924 valid votes were cast across 178 polling centres, resulting in a voter turnout of 51.03 per cent.

Sunamganj-2: BNP nominee Md Nasir Chowdhury was declared the winner after securing 99,522 votes. His closest rival, Jamaat candidate Mohammad Shishir Monir, received 63,220 votes. Communist Party candidate Advocate Niranjan Das secured 1,202 votes.

A total of 163,974 valid votes were counted in the constituency, with turnout recorded at 54.73 per cent. Election officials said 3,253 ballots were rejected during counting.

Sunamganj-3 BNP candidate Mohammad Kaysar Ahmed won Sunamganj-3 with 97,313 votes, defeating rebel BNP candidate Anwar Hossain, who received 42,226 votes with the 'Lock' symbol.

Other candidates included Khelafat Majlis nominee Advocate Maulana Shahinur Pasha Chowdhury, who secured 14,203 votes, while several independent and minor party candidates received significantly fewer votes.

According to returning office sources, a total of 164,392 votes were cast in the constituency, with a turnout rate of 44.07 per cent.

Sunamganj-4: BNP candidate Nurul Islam Nurul secured 98,092 votes, defeating Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Advocate Md Sams Uddin, who received 75,735 votes. Nurul won the seat by a margin of 22,357 votes.

Independent candidate Dewan Zainul Zakerin came third with 26,307 votes, while candidates from the Jatiya Party and Islami Andolan Bangladesh secured 1,789 and 1,435 votes respectively.

Out of 372,185 registered voters, 209,558 cast their ballots, resulting in a turnout of 56.30 per cent.

Sunamganj-5: BNP candidate and former three-time MP Kalim Uddin Ahmed Milon achieved one of the biggest victories in the district, securing 191,915 votes. His closest rival, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Abu Tahir Muhammad Abdus Salam, received 102,121 votes.

Milon won the seat by a margin of 53,069 votes, reaffirming his strong political influence in the constituency.
Other candidates, including nominees from Khelafat Majlis, Jatiya Party, and National People's Party, received significantly fewer votes.

A total of 258,279 valid votes were counted in the constituency, out of 527,457 registered voters, resulting in a turnout of 50.01 per cent.

Postal ballot results showed mixed trends across the district. Jamaat-e-Islami candidates led in postal votes in three constituencies, while BNP candidates led in two. However, the final outcome was determined by general ballot counts, where BNP candidates maintained commanding leads.

Political observers described BNP's clean sweep in Sunamganj as a historic political shift in the district's electoral landscape. The results reflect strong voter support for BNP candidates across both urban and rural areas of the haor region.

With victories in all five constituencies, BNP has established complete parliamentary representation from Sunamganj, strengthening its overall position in the national political arena.
