
COX’S BAZAR, July 23: Veteran journalist Atahar Iqbal, one of the 12 founders of Cox's Bazar Press Club, former president and current executive committee member of the Club, died at his residence in the town early Wednesday. He was 74.
His Namaz-e-Janaza was held at the Baitush Sharaf Jam-e-Mosque in Cox's Bazar on Wednesday after Asr prayers and then buried at the Boilla Para graveyard.
He is survived by his banker wife and only child.
A brief speech was delivered before the funeral prayer by Badiul Alam, one of the founding members of the Club, Mahbubur Rahman, current president of the Club, and Nafis Abid Priyam, the only son of Atahar Iqbal.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Cox's Bazar Press Club President Mahbubur Rahman, General Secretary (GS) Momtaz Uddin Bahari, and Cox's Bazar Journalists Union President Nurul Islam Helali and GS SM Zafar expressed deep shock at the death of the journalist.
