2 fishermen hurt as armed robbers fire at trawler in Bay

PATHARGHATA, BARGUNA, Feb 23: Two fishermen from Patharghata were injured when an armed gang opened fire on their trawler while fishing in the Bay of Bengal on Sunday morning. 

The incident occurred around 6am, about 200 kilometers from Patharghata, near the west of Mongla Bazar in deep waters.

The victims, Nur Alam Khan, 48 and Shahjahan, 45, were among 14 fishermen on the F.B. Zahid trawler, owned by Dulal Mia of West Gutabacha, Kalmegha Union. 

Golam Mostafa Chowdhury, President of the Barguna District Trawler Owners' Association urged immediate and strict action from authorities to protect fishermen and prevent further disruption to the fisheries sector.
