2 held with hemp in Joypurhat

Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested two alleged drug peddlers along with hemp from Khetlal upazila in Joypurhat district on Monday afternoon.

The arrested were identified as Jasim Uddin, 36, a resident of Tangan village under Charghat upazila in Rajshahi district and Abdul Matin, 34, a resident of Katakhali area under Rajshahi metropolitan area.

Acting on a tip-off, police set up a checkpoint in the Pathan Para area.

Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the suspects attempted to flee.

Later, locals intercepted the motorcycle around 4:30 PM in front of Borotara Union Parishad (UP) on suspicion.

Upon searching them, police recovered 27 kg of hemp from their possessions.

Police also seized two motorcycles used for transporting the drugs.

District DB officer-in-charge (OC) Asaduzzaman confirmed the detention and said that legal procedures are underway in this regard.
