The 17-member National Organising Committee of the newly formed political platform 'Alternatives' has been officially announced, signalling the organisation's intention to play a prominent role in the country's evolving political landscape.
The committee is headed by former interim government adviser Mahfuj Alam and former NCP leader Tajnuva Jabeen, both of whom confirmed the announcement on their Facebook pages on Friday night.
The committee comprises Ahmad Ibne Arif (Ani), Emon Syed, Imran Ahmed, Jahin Faruk Amin, Tanvir Chowdhury, Durjoy Das Gupta, Farhadul Alam Sabuj, Mayida Tanha Bidushi, Mutasim Billah, Moniruzzaman, Md Rayhanur Rahman (Rabi), Mohammad Erfanul Haque, Sajjad Hossain Shahidullah, Sheikh Farid, and Hasan Ali.
According to the organisation, the formation of the committee is motivated by what it describes as the erosion of hope and political engagement among students and the wider public. "In the current political context, the active participation of youth and the development of new political thinking are very important," the Alternatives statement reads. "The hopes and dreams of students and the public have largely faded in the political and social reality of the country. One of the goals of the committee is to restore the lost dreams of the students and the public in July."
The committee will focus on expanding the organisation through dialogue and engagement with students, workers, farmers, and the general public, in addition to coordinating organisational activities across various districts. The Alternatives said that this committee would assume a central leadership role in implementing the organisation's nationwide agenda.
