Youth dies, 3 hospitalised after consuming liquor in Naogaon

A youth died and three others have been hospitalized after consuming liquor during the Holi festival in Naogaon’s Atrai upazila on Wednesday morning.

The incident occurred at Dubai village under Bisha union in the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Naim Islam, 22, son of Abdul Mannan of the same village.

According to Naim’s brother-in-law Ariful Islam, Naim and three other from the village drank liquor from a bottle containing spirit while celebrating the Hindu festival of Holi. Shortly after consuming the drink, they fell seriously ill.

Later, locals rescued them and took them to Atrai Upazila Health Complex. As their condition deteriorated, doctors referred them to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for better treatment where Naim died while undergoing treatment.

The three others who are currently receiving treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital are Pisas Kumar, 23, Likhon, 20 and Milan Chandra, 26, all residents of the same village.

Atrai Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Abdul Karim said that he had heard that several people were hospitalised after drinking liquor and that one person had died.

He added that police were heading to the scene to investigate the incident further at the time of filing this report.
