
KHULNA, Mar 16: Professor Dr. S M Abdul Awal of Khulna University (KU) has been appointed Chief Coordinator for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) with the status of a secretary.
The information was disclosed in a notification signed by Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration Md Golam Rabbani on Sunday.
According to the notification, Prof. Dr. Abdul Awal has been appointed to the post on a contractual basis from the date of joining, subject to relinquishing his affiliation with any other profession, business or public or private organisation.
The appointment will remain effective for the tenure of the Prime Minister or until his satisfaction, whichever occurs earlier.
The notification also stated that he will enjoy the rank, status and benefits of a government secretary while serving in the position.
Earlier, following the July Mass Uprising, he had been serving as the sixth Vice-Chancellor of Pabna University of Science and Technology (PUST).
Prof. Abdul Awal completed his bachelor's degree in 2004 from the Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering Discipline of Khulna University.
He obtained a master's degree in Molecular Life Sciences from the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium in 2009 and later earned his PhD from Churchill College of the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom in 2015.
