Train communication between the northern region and the rest of the country has returned to normal after 21 hours following the derailment of the Chilahati-bound 'Nil Sagar Express' at Bagbari area in Santahar under Adamdighi upazila.

Rail movement on the route resumed around 12noon on Thursday through the Khulna-bound passenger train 'Simanta Express' departing from Chilahati.

On Wednesday, the derailment occurred in the afternoon when the Dhaka-bound Nil Sagar Express, heading towards Chilahati, went off the tracks in the Bagbari area of Santahar.

In the evening, one relief train from Ishwardi and another from Parbatipur joined the rescue efforts. After overnight operations, the derailed bogies were removed from the tracks and six bogies were placed beside the railway line.
