Over 41.5 lakh taxpayers file returns online: NBR

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has announced that more than 41 lakh 50 thousand taxpayers have submitted their income tax returns online.

In a press release issued on Sunday, the NBR said it has made online submission of income tax returns mandatory for all individual taxpayers for the 2025-2026 tax year, with a few exceptions.

According to the statement, over 50 lakh individual taxpayers have already registered on the NBR's e-return system. Of them, more than 41.5 lakh have successfully filed their returns online for the current tax year.

The deadline for submitting returns for individual taxpayers has been extended until March 31 this year. However, taxpayers may apply in writing before the deadline to their respective tax commissioners for an extension of up to 90 days.
