NARAIL, Mar 29: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Sunday arrested the truck driver from Bagharpara upazila in Jashore district in connection with the killing of a filling station manager in Narail.

The arrestee was identified as Sujat Ali of Peroli village.

Tipped off, a team of RAB-6 conducted a drive in Bagharpara upazila and arrested Sujat, said commanding officer of RAB-6, Major ATM Fazle Rabbi while briefing to the reporters.

However, the law enforcers seized the truck from Benapole area of Jashore district.

All filling station in Narail district were shut as the filling station owners called an indefinite strike for Sunday protesting the alleged killing of a pump manager over his refusal to supply fuel to a truck driver.

Saiful Islam Hitru, joint convener of Narail Petrol Pump Owners Association, said they have decided to close all ten pumps in the district for Sunday.

Earlier, a filling station manager was allegedly killed and another critically injured after a dispute over fuel escalated into a fatal incident in Narail Sadar upazila early Sunday.

Deceased Nahid Sardar, 35, was the manager of Tanvir Filling Station and a resident of Peroli village under Tularampur union.
Injured Jihadul Mollah, 29, has been transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital as his condition critical.

According to local sources, the incident occurred around 2:10AM on the Kalna-Jashore highway near the Tularampur rail bridge.

Earlier in the night, an argument broke out between Nahid and a truck driver after the driver was reportedly unable to get fuel at the station.

CCTV footage shows that despite the altercation, the truck driver remained at the filling station. After completing work, Nahid left the station on a motorcycle with his colleague Jihadul. Shortly after, the truck was seen chasing them at high speed before running them over.

Nahid died on the spot, while Jihadul sustained severe injuries. He was initially taken to a local hospital and later shifted to Dhaka for advanced treatment.

Filling station employees said that on Saturday night, a truck driver named Sujat came to Tanvir Filling Station to get petrol. An altercation ensued between him and Nahid over the fuel and when he was denied, the driver allegedly threatened to run Nahid over publicly.
