Bangladesh seeks Ireland’s support for UNGA presidency

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam on Tuesday sought Ireland’s backing for Bangladesh’s bid to preside over the 81st United Nations General Assembly (2026"27).

The discussion took place during a courtesy visit by Kevin Kelly, who is resident in New Delhi. 

Both sides exchanged views on regional and global issues, emphasizing the need for peace, stability and stronger international cooperation.

Ambassador Kelly congratulated the State Minister on her appointment and expressed confidence in further strengthening Bangladesh-Ireland ties under the current government.

The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation across trade, development, education, sports, culture and consular and migration matters. 

They also discussed enhancing collaboration in both bilateral and multilateral forums, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
