Sagar-Runi murder probe delayed for 125th time, report due May 7

A Dhaka court has deferred the investigation report in the high-profile Sagar-Runi murder case for 125th time, setting May 7 as the new date for submission.

On Wednesday, a Metropolitan Magistrate fixed the date after the investigating agency failed to submit the report as scheduled.

The case involves eight accused, including a friend of the deceased couple and several security personnel. 

Despite multiple remand hearings, none of the accused has given a confessional statement.

Journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi were brutally murdered at their rented home in Dhaka on February 11, 2012, triggering nationwide outrage.

Over the years, the investigation has been handed over to multiple agencies. 

A High Court bench had earlier ordered the formation of a high-powered task force and directed it to complete the probe within six months, but the case remains unresolved.
