A Bangladeshi youth was injured after being shot by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) in Lalmonirhat’s Patgram upazila border area, prompting tensions along the frontier.

The injured was identified as Md Mizanur Rahman, 28, a resident of Rahmatpur Gatirvita village in the upazila.

According to police, the incident occurred around 10:30 AM on Monday near border pillar 826/1-S under the Dhobalshuti BOP of the 61 BGB’s Teesta Battalion when Mizanur crossed about 10 yards inside Indian territory near Gatirvita area to cut grass.

At that time, a patrol team from BSF’s 98 Battalion (Gomti camp) opened fire. He was struck in the shoulder and managed to return to Bangladeshi territory despite the injury.

Later, locals rescued him and took him to Rangpur for advanced medical treatment.

Following the incident, tension spread in the border area.

Meanwhile, locals reportedly detained an Indian national, identified as Shree Sadhan Barman, along with two cattle and brought him into Bangladesh.

Patgram Police Station officer-in-charge Nazmul Haque confirmed that the detained Indian citizen is currently in custody of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
