A Khulna court on Thursday sentenced a youth to 14 years in rigorous imprisonment in a arms case.
Khulna District and Sessions Judge Chand Mohammad Abdul Alim Al Razi announced the verdict.
The convicted is Md.Shahidul Islam alias Makmal, 23, son of Nizam Molla, a resident of Poygram in Phultala upazila.
The verdict was confirmed by the court's Public Prosecutor (PP) Chowdhury Touhidur Rahman Tushar.
According to court sources, members of Khulna RAB-6 conducted a drive in Phultala on February 1, 2023 to recover narcotics and illegal weapons.
At that time, they came to know that some miscreants were stationed on the road on the west side of Phultala Re-union School And College of the upazila.
Later, they conducted a drive there at around 11PM.
Sensing the presence of RAB, Shahidul Islam tried to run away from the scene but failed.
After searching him, two guns, were recovered from his bag.
Later that night, RAB DAD Md. Anwarul Islam filed a case with Phultala Police Station in the incident.
On March 7 of the same year, SI Shafiqul Islam, the investigation officer of the case, filed a charge sheet in the court, accusing Md. Sahidul Islam.
