Free seeds, fertiliser distributed to Sapahar farmers

SAPAHAR, NAOGAON, Apr 16: The government has distributed free seeds and fertilisers among 2,200 small and marginal farmers in Sapahar Upazila of Naogaon to boost production during the Kharif-1 season of the 2025-26 fiscal year.

The distribution ceremony was held on Wednesday morning at the Upazila Parishad auditorium under the agricultural incentive programme. Local Member of Parliament Md. Mostafizur Rahman attended the event as the chief guest.

According to the Upazila Agriculture Office, the incentives include seeds for Transplanted (Ropa) Aman paddy, sesame, and mung bean. Each farmer selected for Aman cultivation received 5kg of seeds, 10kg of DAP (Diammonium Phosphate), and 10kg of MOP (Muriate of Potash) fertilisers. Necessary inputs were also provided to those designated for sesame and mung bean farming.

The aid covers farmers across six unions: Sapahar, Goala, Tilna, Aihai, Patari, and Shiranti.
Presided over by Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Romana Riaz, the programme commenced with a welcome address by Upazila Agriculture Officer Shapla Khatun.

Speakers at the event noted that the government initiative plays a vital role in encouraging farmers and increasing overall national agricultural yield.

The ceremony was attended by Assistant Commissioner (Land) Faridul Islam, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Arifuzzaman, Additional Agriculture Officer Muniruzzaman Toky, and Sapahar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mizanur Rahman.

Also present were Upazila Social Services Officer Delwar Hossain, Upazila BNP Senior Vice-President Abdur Rahim, General Secretary Sarwar Jahan Chowdhury (Labu), Vice-President Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury, Member Mokhlesur Rahman (Mukul), and Organisational Secretary Shafiqul Islam, alongside other government officials and local dignitaries.
