471 teachers, edn officials flagged

The Directorate of Inspection and Audit (DIA), an agency under the Ministry of Education, has recommended disciplinary and administrative action against 471 teachers and officials appointed to private educational institutions using fake or forged certificates.

At present, appointments in private educational institutions are made through the Non-Government Teachers Registration and Certification Authority (NTRCA) examination process. 

According to the DIA report, out of the 471 identified cases, 194 teacher registration certificates were found to be fake. In addition, 229 computer training certificates and 48 certificates related to B.P.Ed, B.Ed, library science and other qualifications were found to be either fake or forged.

The DIA has recently sent its recommendations to the Ministry of Education seeking necessary administrative measures. Following the recommendation, the ministry has directed the Department of Secondary and Higher Education to take action in accordance with the Private Educational Institutions (Schools and Colleges) Manpower Structure and MPO Policy 2025. In a letter issued on Wednesday, the relevant authorities were also instructed to report back on the actions taken.

In a separate case, the DIA recently identified the educational certificate of an assistant teacher of Khalabhanga Maqbul Hossain High School in Nalitabari Upazila of Sherpur as fake. 

Following verification by the National University, the issuing authority, it was confirmed that the certificate was forged. As a result, the teacher is liable to refund more than Tk 3.8 million received as salary and allowances from government funds.

Officials said that, like the teacher at Khalabhanga Maqbul Hossain High School, certificates of 471 other teachers and employees working in private schools and colleges across the country have been identified as fake or forged.
