HC for mandatory domestic workers’ registration

Published : Monday, 20 April, 2026 at 12:00 AM
The High Court on Sunday issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain why the registration of housekeepers should not be made mandatory across the country, including the capital.

The HC bench comprising Justice Razik Al Jalil and Justice Debashish Roy Chowdhury issued the rule after preliminary hearing on a writ petition filed in this regard.

Secretaries to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and the Ministry of Labour and Employment have been asked to reply to the rule within four weeks.

Earlier on January 13, Advocate Khadijatul Kobra had filed the writ petition with the High Court seeking directives to make the registration of house helps mandatory nationwide. The petition also sought instructions for the proper implementation of laws concerning house helps.

Advocate Tanzim Al Islam represented the writ petitioners in the court.
