CHATTOGRAM, Apr 21: A clash between Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and Chhatra Shibir broke out at Chattogram Government City College campus on Tuesday over graffiti and subsequent social media posts, leaving at least 10 people injured.

Classes and examinations at the college were suspended due to the clash between the two groups. However, authorities said examinations for second-year degree and master's courses under the National University are continuing.

Tensions began on Tuesday morning and later escalated into a confrontation. In the afternoon, members of both groups again faced off on campus, shouting slogans as chase and counter-chase incidents continued.

According to sources, graffiti on a campus building from the July-August period reading "Student Politics and Chhatra League-free campus" became the centre of the dispute. A group of Chhatra Dal leaders and activists, led by Abdullah Al Mamun, joint convener of the college unit, allegedly erased part of the text and wrote "Gupta" over it. A video of the act was later shared on social media, further escalating tensions.

Chittagong City College Chhatra Dal convener Sohel Siddique Roni said Shibir activists reacted with abusive posts and later attacked Chhatra Dal members when they attempted to hold discussions in the morning. He claimed four activists are receiving treatment in hospitals.

Chhatra Shibir Chittagong Metropolitan South publicity secretary Zahidul Alam Joy alleged that Chhatra Dal leaders launched an ambush on Shibir activists, attacking students who were attending classes and exams. He said five Shibir members were injured.
