Shilpi Begum, a Juba Mahila League activist who was sent to jail in a case over the attempted murder of Dhaka University student Tahmid Mubin Ratul during the July Uprising and separated from her one-and-a-half-month-old daughter, has been released on bail.
Shilpi and her child were released from Kashimpur Central Jail shortly before noon on Wednesday. Family members were present at the time. Shilpi's lawyer, Farzana Yasmin Rakhi, said: "[On Tuesday] afternoon, Shilpi's bail plea was rejected and she was sent to jail. Later in the evening, she was granted bail after we sought reconsideration.
"We could not submit the bail bond [on Tuesday]. We submitted it today, and Shilpi Begum was released from Kashimpur Jail shortly before noon."
Shilpi's husband, Rahim Hossain Sohag, said: "The child has become slightly ill because of the heat. Her mother was already unwell, and her condition has worsened due to the stress."
Shilpi is involved in politics through Ward No. 26 of the Dhaka Metropolitan North unit of the Juba Mahila League. She was arrested from the Railway Colony area of Tejkunipara on Monday evening. "bdnews24
