GOPALGANJ, Apr 25: Member of Parliament (MP) for Gopalganj-3 (Kotalipara-Tungipara) and Central President of Swachhasebak Dal SM Zillani has taken part in a cleaning drive to remove water hyacinth from a canal in Kotalipara Upazila of Gopalganj.

On Saturday, he, along with local party leaders and activists, removed water hyacinth from the Konerbhita-Ramnagar canal in Sadhullapur union.

Among others present were Kotalipara Upazila BNP President SM Moinuddin, General Secretary Abul Bashar Howladar, Poura BNP General Secretary Oliar Rahman Howladar, Upazila BNP Organising Secretary Solomon Sheikh, BNP leader Manik Howladar, Kajal Amit Mahmud, Rofiqul Islam Howladar, Youth Wing Convenor Ranjan Mallik, Member Secretary Mannan Sheikh, Swachhasebak Dal Convenor Mahbub Khan, Member Secretary Masud Talukder, Chhatra Dal Convenor Lalon Sheikh, Member Secretary Niloy Howladar, and a large number of party activists.

Speaking on the occasion, MP SM Zillani said the Sadhullapur Union's Konerbhita-Ramnagar canal is very important for the local people. He said a majority of residents use the canal to transport harvested paddy by boat from the fields to their homes.

However, the canal had become heavily clogged with water hyacinth, making it extremely difficult for farmers to carry their crops. "That is why I, along with party leaders and activists, took the initiative to clean the canal," he said.

He also said similar programmes will continue in the future to clean important canals across Kotalipara Upazila to ensure smooth water flow and ease public suffering.
