Russian engineer dies at Rooppur nuclear site suddenly falling ill

A Russian citizen, working at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Project in Pabna's Ishwardi, has died after suddenly fell ill.

Ishwardi Police Station OC Asadur Rahman said Churkin Vladimir, 40, felt chest pain while exercising inside the residential complex on Friday evening and collapsed. His colleagues took him to Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex where on-duty doctors declared him dead.

Churkin Vladimir worked for Atomtekh Energo, an affiliate of Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom. He lived in a residential building inside the project’s Green City complex.

No visible injury marks were found on the body during the inquest, the OC said. 

Police suspect that Vladimir might have died of a heart attack.

However, the exact cause of death will be confirmed after a post-mortem, the OC said.
