At least seven passengers were reported injured as a speeding Dhaka-bound bus lost control and hit a guardrail on the Dhaka-Mawa expressway in Munshiganj’s Sreenagar on Tuesday (August 18).
Witnesses said the accident took place around 10:30 AM in the Bejgaon area on the Dhaka-bound lane of the expressway. After hitting the guardrail, the bus overturned on the highway, causing traffic to slow down.
Fire service personnel rescued the injured and sent them to a nearby hospital.
The injured were Archana Mili, 25, Kaniz Fatema, 23, Raju, 17, Nurnabi, 30, Ibrahim, 40, and Mariam, 55, from Pirojpur, alongside Sauda Begum, 35, from Barguna.
Muhammad Shafiqul Islam, deputy assistant director of Munshiganj Fire Service and Civil Defence, said two units from the Sreenagar Fire Station rushed to the spot after getting the news.
He said a Rajib Paribahan bus from Patharghata in Barishal lost control, rammed into the road railing, and overturned.
Firefighters rescued seven injured passengers from the spot. They sent them to Sreenagar Upazila Health Complex in fire service ambulances.
