49 reserved seat women MPs to take oath tonight

Members of Parliament (MPs) from the reserved seats for women in the 13th National Parliament are set to take their oath of office tonight (May 2).
 
The swearing-in ceremony will be held at 9:00 PM at the Oath Room of the Parliament building.

On April 30, the Election Commission (EC) officially published a gazette notifying the names of 49 female MPs who were elected unopposed. 

According to the gazette, the seats were distributed among political parties and alliances based on their proportional strength. 

The ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its alliance secured 36 seats, Jamaat-e-Islami and its alliance gained 12 seats, and one seat went to an independent candidate.

The MPs-elect from the BNP alliance include Selima Rahman, Shirin Sultana, Rasheda Begum Hira, Rehana Akhter Ranu, Newaz Halima Arly, Farida Yasmin, Bilkis Islam, Shakila Farzana, Helen Zerin Khan, Nilofar Chowdhury Moni, Nipun Roy Chowdhury, Jiba Amina Khan, Mahmuda Habiba, Sabira Sultana, Sansila Jebrin, Sanjida Islam, Sultana Ahmed, Fahmida Haque, Anna Minz, Suborna Sikder, Shamim Ara Begum Swapna, Shammi Akhter, Ferdousi Ahmed, Beethika Binte Hossain, Suraiya Zerin, Mansura Akhter, Johrat Adib Chowdhury, Momtaz Alo, Fahima Nasrin, Arifa Sultana, Sanjida Yasmin, Nadia Pathan Papon, Shawkat Ara Akhter, Madhavi Marma, Selina Sultana, and Rezeka Sultana.

Representing the Jamaat-e-Islami alliance are Nurunnesa Siddika, Marzia Begum, Sabikunnahar, Nazmun Nahar, Mahfuza Hannan, Sajeda Samad, Shamsunnahar Begum, Mardia Momtaz, Rokeya Begum, Mahmuda Alam Mitu, Tasmia Pradhan and Mahbuba Hakim. 

Additionally, Sultana Jasmine has been elected as an independent candidate.

In a related development, the Election Commission on Saturday validated the nomination paper of Nusrat Tabassum, a leader of National Citizen Party (NCP) and a candidate for the Jamaat alliance in the remaining reserved women’s seat.
