The body of Nahida Sultana Brishty, a Bangladeshi student of University of South Florida who was killed in the United States, has been sent to Bangladesh after authorities completed all necessary legal formalities.

According to a statement issued on Friday by Bangladesh Consulate General in Miami, Brishty’s remains were flown from Orlando International Airport in Florida on Thursday evening and are being transported to Bangladesh via Dubai.

Her body is expected to arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 8:40 AM Bangladesh time on Saturday.

Officials said that after the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the identification of Brishti’s body on May 1, the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington, DC, and Bangladesh Consulate General in Miami coordinated closely with her family, university authorities, local Bangladeshi expatriates in Tampa, and relevant law enforcement agencies to complete the required legal procedures as quickly as possible.

Earlier, Brishty’s namaz-e-janaza was held on Wednesday after Zuhr prayers at the Islamic Society of Tampa Bay Area mosque.

Students from the University of South Florida, officials from the Bangladesh Consulate General in Miami, members of the media and expatriate Bangladeshis attended the funeral prayers.
