Feni's inventor develops tech to save 30pc of fuel consumption

FENI, May 8: Energy is the lifeblood of Bangladesh's economy, powering industries, factories, and production. Yet, widespread wastage in conventional fuel use continues unchecked. Against this backdrop, a grassroots inventor from Feni has developed a breakthrough technology that promises to save up to 30 per cent of the country's fuel consumption, potentially saving thousands of crores of taka annually.

Abdul Hannan, a resident of Dhonsaddah Village in Baligaon Union under Feni Sadar Upazila, has spent 15 years researching fuel efficiency. His innovation has already been tested and approved by the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and recognised by the Ministry of Industries. He has applied for a patent.

According to BUET's Mechanical Engineering Department, conventional systems consume 0.483 grams of fuel to produce one unit of electricity. Hannan's technology reduces this to 0.357 grams, saving 126 grams per unit-about 26 per cent overall. Hannan claims that if implemented nationwide across power plants, mills, and factories, the technology could save Tk 25,000-30,000 crore annually in fuel costs.

Despite the breakthrough, Hannan faces significant challenges. He lacks funding, laboratory facilities, and technical support to advance his research further. "I have proven the technology works. But without financial and institutional support, I cannot take it forward. If adopted, this technology could benefit not only Bangladesh but the entire world," he said.

Hannan's journey began in 2000 after completing his HSC from Feni Shaheen Academy. Running a small computer and photocopy shop in his village, he was often troubled by power outages. This sparked his interest in energy efficiency. Over the years, he balanced research with fish and livestock farming, though floods in 2024 and 2025 destroyed his farms. Still, he returned to his passion for fuel-saving technology.

Born in 1984 to expatriate father Kutub Uddin and mother Nur Nahar, Hannan completed primary education at Dhonsaddah Government Primary School and SSC at Dhonsaddah High School. He is married to Asma Akter and has two sons and a daughter.

Hannan's invention now awaits broader recognition and support. With proper backing, his technology could mark a turning point in Bangladesh's energy sector, reducing dependence on costly imports and setting an example for global energy efficiency.
