Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) Executive Member Imran Hossain has provided motorcycle riding training to around 580 Dhaka University students, including nearly 50 women, under a voluntary campus-based initiative aimed at developing practical riding skills and promoting safe travel.

Imran has been conducting the programme free of cost for the past three months. He said the initiative was launched to support students interested in learning motorcycle riding but lacking access to proper training facilities.

“The main objective is to train Dhaka University students who are eager to learn riding but are not getting adequate opportunities,” he said. “It is important for safe movement and skill development.”

Initially, around 200 students registered centrally for the programme. Later, the training activities expanded across different residential halls of the university.

Practice sessions are being held at several open spaces on campus, including the fields of Jasimuddin Hall, Mohsin Hall and the university’s central playground. Participants are informed about schedules and updates through a dedicated social media platform.

According to Imran, nearly 567 students had completed the training at the time of the interview, while another 10 to 12 learners were scheduled for sessions on the same day.

He expressed satisfaction over the participation of female students, saying that around 50 women had already completed the training programme.

Regarding driving licences, Imran said the university authorities and DUCSU do not have jurisdiction to arrange official licences for participants.

He added that the initiative would continue until the end of the current DUCSU term with the goal of ensuring that every interested student on campus gets the opportunity to receive training.
