Thakurgaon University is set to begin its academic activities next year, with six departments planned to be launched initially at a temporary campus.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Israfil Shaheen said he expects approval to open the six departments by next week.
He made the remarks on Monday ahead of the foundation stone-laying ceremony of Thakurgaon University.
Professor Shaheen said preparations are underway to launch the university’s academic programmes, with the administration working toward starting classes next year.
He expressed hope that approval for the initial six departments would be secured within the coming week.
The VC added that a temporary campus would be set up in Thakurgaon town until construction of the university’s permanent infrastructure is completed. Academic activities will begin from the temporary campus.
Ending years of anticipation, President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir is scheduled to lay the foundation stone of Thakurgaon University on Monday. The ceremony will take place on the second day of his first official visit to his home district of Thakurgaon since assuming office as president.
The president is scheduled to lay the foundation stone at the designated site of the proposed university beside the Thakurgaon-Pirganj road in the Jamalpur area of Sadar upazila this morning.
The move is expected to open a new chapter in higher education in the northern region, with local residents expressing hope that the university will create greater opportunities for students in the area.
