At least six children died with measles symptoms in the last 24 hour as the country is facing a severe health crisis with the total number of measles-related cases surpassed 50,000 and 415 deaths reported since mid-March.
According to the latest report from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) released on Monday, 1,459 new patients were identified with the symptoms from March 15 to May 11.
Of the 415 fatalities recorded during this period, 65 have been laboratory-confirmed as measles deaths, while 350 victims died exhibiting clinical symptoms of the disease.
The surge in cases has put significant pressure on the healthcare system, with 6,937 confirmed infections and 50,500 symptomatic patients seeking hospital treatment nationwide.
Dhaka division remains the epicenter of the outbreak, accounting for the highest casualties and infections. In this region alone, 182 children have died from the disease or related symptoms, and 27,489 cases have been identified.
Health authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as the number of infections across the country shows no signs of an immediate slowdown.
