Professor Dr A K M Matinur Rahman of Public Administration Department has been appointed as the 15th vice-chancellor of Islamic University.
The appointment was announced on Thursday through a notification issued by the Secondary and Higher Education Division under the Ministry of Education. The notification was signed by Assistant Secretary Sultan Ahmed.
According to the notification, the appointment was made by the president, who also serves as the chancellor of the university.
Dr Matinur Rahman will serve a four-year term from the date of joining or until reaching the age of retirement, whichever comes first. The notification also stated that the chancellor retains the authority to revoke the appointment if necessary.
A veteran academic and administrator, Dr Matinur Rahman has held several important positions at the university over the years. He currently serves as central vice-president of University Teachers' Association of Bangladesh (UTAB) and was the founding convener of the university’s Sada Dal teachers’ panel.
He also previously served as president of the university teachers’ association, dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, university proctor and provost of Saddam Hossain Hall.
