Prof Abul Hasnat appointed as PSTU VC

Professor Dr Abul Hasnat Mohammad Shamim has been appointed as the new Vice Chancellor (VC) of Pabna Science and Technology University (PSTU).

The appointment was announced in a notification issued on Thursday by the Secondary and Higher Education Division under the Ministry of Education.

Dr Shamim is currently serving as a professor of the Department of Soil Science under the School of Agriculture and Rural Development (SARD) at Bangladesh Open University and also holds the post of treasurer there.

According to the notification signed by Assistant Secretary Md Shah Alam Siraj, the appointment was made under Section 10(1) of the Pabna Science and Technology University Act, 2001.

He will serve as VC for a four-year term from the date of joining.

During his tenure, he will receive salary and allowances equivalent to his current position along with other benefits as per existing rules.

The notification also said he will serve as the chief executive officer of the university and must stay on the campus full-time.

Dr Shamim passed SSC from Monakosha Humayun Reza High School in 1991 and HSC from Rajshahi Government College in 1993, securing first division in both examinations.

He later obtained both his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees with first class from the Department of Soil, Water and Environment at Dhaka University (DU).

In 2010, he earned a PhD in environmental science from Okayama University in Japan under the Monbukagakusho scholarship programme.
