If the law and order in the country worsens, the public confidence in the government will 'hit rock bottom', warned Hasnat Abdullah, MP on Sunday.
Hasnat Abdullah, National Citizen Party (NCP) chief organiser for the southern region, came up with that warning while addressing an NCP march and joining programme in Meghna upazila.
Referring to recent killings in Meghna, Hasnat criticised the government's ineffective handling of law and order, saying, "People say this government has many virtues. But four murders have taken place in Meghna upazila within four months. If so many murders occur in one upazila in such a short period, then what does the home minister actually do?"
He further alleged the home minister is failing to discharge his responsibility related to his ministry. "Sometimes he speaks for the prime minister and sometimes for the finance minister. In practical term, he has no concern for his own ministry," he maintained.
Hasnat pointed out the people of the country had long been deprived of their voting rights, democratic practices and fundamental constitutional rights, claiming the ordinary citizens suffered the most because of corruption, illegal occupation and prolonged political terrorism.
He added a broad based public realignment is now taking shape in favour of political change. "Conscious citizens are uniting throughout the country for change. Under the leadership of youths, a completely new political trend has already become organised," he said again.
While warning of future political resistance, the NCP leader said those who deprived people of their rights would face a "final response on the streets" in the coming days.
