A man was hacked to death in broad daylight on Tuesday by his rivals over a dispute regarding a sand dredger business and his opposition to local drug trafficking at Madanganj area of Bandar upazila of Narayanganj district.
The incident took place on the banks of Shitalakshya River at Madanganj Shantinagar.
The victim, Identified as Maksudur Rahman Jewel, was the son of the late Tajul Islam of the area.
According to the victim's family and local police, Jewel was lured to the spot via a phone call from his friend. Once he arrived, a group of miscreants brutally hacked him to death before fleeing the scene.
The victim's brother, Sohail, stated that Jewel had an ongoing feud with several local individuals, identified as Titu, Al Amin, Dish Dulal and Palash over the ownership and dominance of the dredger business.
Furthermore, Jewel had recently opposed their illegal drug trade in the neighborhood. Sohail alleged that the attackers planned the murder together and demanded the arrest and execution of justice for the killers.
Bandar Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Golam Muktar Ashraf Uddin confirmed the incident, stating that the body has been recovered and sent to the hospital for an autopsy.
"We are actively working to arrest those involved in the murder. Two individuals have already been detained for questioning," the OC added.
